Social Media in the Third Sector

Can social media deliver social returns? This is the question asked by Sarah Dyer, director of new media at charity Beatbullying. Within the academy, it can be easy to assume that understanding of social change is something which results form disinterested academic study. Yet perhaps, with something like social media, any real understanding of its consequences from society comes from those who are, so to speak, on the front line: integrating the technology into organisations in order to transform their activity.
